Phi Slama Blunder

phislama.jpg From 1982-84, the high flying act of Phi Slama Jama which starred future hall of famers Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler, helped lead UH to a 31-3 record and three Final Four appearances.

Behind this force with head coach Guy V. Lewis and now Nike is honoring this era in Cougars basketball by releasing the Nike Big Nike Hi LE "Phi Slamma Jamma" shoe.

Sounds great, right? No, not really. Nike is not releasing this shoe in the Bayou City, but only exclusively at House of Hoops stores which are currently located in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York.

It's bad enough they "misspelled" Phi Slama Jama; rumor has it so they wouldn't have to pay UH, but to not to find a way to release this shoe in Houston is a marketing blunder.

The majority of their market is here and the buzz would create quite a demand for Cougar Nation; young or old.

Unless Nike makes a change, Cougar fans will have to trek to their nearest House of Hoops location to purchase these bad boys.

Anyone up for a road trip?

Strange. You'd think that they'd sell those shoes where there's more demand, and you'd think that Houstonians would be all over that.

Every UH alum or student I've talked to loves these shoes and are very disappointed that Nike is voiding the Houston market.

Hopefully, they'll cave in.
