If you’re interested but don’t know where to start, there are many places to get your hands on some Polaroids and compatible film. Start looking for cameras in your local thrift and resale shops - this means stores like Value Village, Sand Dollar, Savers, or the Guild Shop. The old Polaroid 600 film, that familiar standard that you aren’t supposed to shake even if Outkast says so - is getting harder and harder to come by due to the closure of the factories that produced it. However, if you’re lucky you can track it down at a CVS, Walgreens, and sometimes even Target.
There are also Polaroid pack film cameras that shoot “peel-apart” film. You can find this film at Houston Camera Exchange or Camera Co-Op. The Polaroid film supply is dwindling, but Fuji happens to make compatible film. If you've got a Polaroid, found one, or have questions, our favorite resource for instant camera information is The Land List.
We happen to have it on good authority that Houston has a great collection of photographers, both professional and amateur, so Houstonist wants to know, who is participating in Polaroid Week? We would love to see Houston well represented. Let us know in the comments.
