Standard Tex-Mex ritas. Decently priced and concocted, in no particular order:
Café Adobe- Their house margarita has been voted best margarita in Houston several times. Would the discerning tastes of Houstonist dub it that? No. However, it’s not bad for the price at $6.25.
Pappasitos- As usual, Pappasito’s will be serving their Grand Gold margarita in a commemorative anniversary glass, which you get to keep, at $8.95.
Goode Company Seafood- flavorful, but not overpowering. At $5.25, it’s one of the best deals in the city.
Chuy’s- We go here for the Texas Martinis. Served in a shaker and martini glass with jalapeño stuffed olives, they are decently strong and a better bang for your buck than their house margaritas at $6.75.
El Tiempo Cantina- potent and tasty. El Tiempo on Richmond has one of our favorite Tex-Mex restaurant atmospheres as well. Watch out- too many ritas might have you stray next door
Cyclone Anaya’s- You are going to want to invest in the jumbo-sized margarita at $14. Trust us, it will deliver a knock-out punch.
Berryhill Baja Grill- These ritas vary in potency per location. We recommend the frozen ritas at the Montrose location if you can handle them. This place is the best deal at happy hour, only $5.
Ninfa’s on Navigation- The Navigation Ninfarita has been made from the original recipe since 1973 at $6.95.
Canyon Café- The house margaritas start at $6.95. If you would like a step-up in quality, try the hand-shaken Top Shelf Conmemorativo at $10.95.
Maria Selma- only $2.99 at happy hour for a descent margarita.
The best. The ritas at these places will not disappoint:
Bodegas Taco Shop- Newly opened and located on the edge of the museum district. They have a huge variety of tequilas and fresh fruit margaritas. No-frills, great Tex-Mex, so you can spend your money on a top-shelf rita. Bodegas does not have a website yet, but for more information check out the Houston Press article.
Hugo’s- serves the finest quality margaritas on the rocks. They are shaken barside or at your table. They range in price from about $7-$28. Using blanco or silver tequilas (not aged in oak) make the best ritas as the oak flavor tends to compete with the citrus flavors.
Pico’s Mex Mex- offers a large variety of hand made margaritas with premium tequilas and liquous. They are also home to the “World’s Largest Margarita” and the PicoRita Silver starting at only $5.25.
Spanish Village Restaurant- has been around for over fifty years. They do not serve frozen margaritas, rather they freeze the lime juice which fractures when the drink is mixed. Ritas start at $6.50.
Tila’s- has homemade infused tequila as well as an extensive variety of tequilas to choose from. The house margaritas start at $4.95, but tequila substitutions may incur an additional charge.
Could kill you:
El Patio- *cough* Club No Minor. Blue Everclear Margaritas. Enough said.
Chacho’s- You need a wristband and police scan to drink. Okay, not a police scan, but a wrist band, seriously.
Ruchi’s- Open 24 hours. No website, but if you live in Houston, you know them.
