H-Town Rock

For the Weekend of May 7th - 10th, 2009

Luckily, after a rather lackluster past few days, the live music scene in Houston promises to be rather active this weekend. Maybe that's as it should be, since more people do tend to go out more frequently on the weekend, but it's difficult to deny the quality and quantity of shows slated to be played around town. Thursday brings us another opportunity to see the exciting live act that is Black Joe Lewis and The Honeybears, as the band opens for Lucero at Walter's. Friday looks to keep even the most dedicated concert-goer quite busy: Fat Tony will be performing at Mango's with When Dinosaurs Ruled The Earth and Marry Me, Dave Wrangler will be creating booty-shaking beats over at Boondocks, and there looks to be a great slate of rock acts upstairs at Fitzgerald's (which is probably where you'll find our crazy roommate). Saturday might find you enjoying the music of Mechanical Boy at Mango's, but our money is on the Sneaker Pimps USA tour at Warehouse Live, as Scarface, Wale, and Tha Fucking Transmissions should certainly rock that stage with fervor.

Regarding Sunday, it appears that we actually have some decent choices for Mother's Day (not that your Mom will be out and about show-hopping that night). For our money, we're going to suggest watching Kevin Devine at Warehouse Live, as we've really enjoyed his new record, Brother's Blood. Besides, do you really want to make the trek to the 'burbs to see Korn, 311, and Papa Roach play another Buzzfest? We didn't think so.
