After staying mum for months because of pending litigation surrounding allegations that he used performance enhancing drugs during his Major League Baseball career, Roger Clemens got back to trying to set the record straight Tuesday with an appearance on ESPN Radio's Mike and Mike in the Morning. We told you about it. Clemens read it. And, he responded.
In a short email to Houstonist, The Rocket expressed gratitude to Houston fans and offered to answer your questions.
The fans and the folks in Houston have always been great to Deb, the kids and me and we’re grateful for the support.A call to The Roger Clemens Foundation confirmed that the email is from the man himself. So, what do you want to know, Houston?I know a lot of baseball fans read the Houstonist and that they have asked questions about the false allegations against me. I welcome the chance to answer the questions of your readers.
Post your questions for Clemens in the comments below or email questions to questionsforclemens @ houstonist.com. We'll pick the best ones to include in our chat. Of course, we'll be reviewing the questions for sanity, relevance and overall decorum, so stay classy,

Missed Connections: Gefilte Fish...and "Chain Connections"

Why should we believe that you did not use PEDS (HGH, Steroids) when your own wife admits to using HGH?
She is not even an athlete and she used it. It makes no sense that the athlete husband would not have taken advantage of PEDS but the wife would.
I doubt you will ask him this...
1. Regardless of the truthfulness of the claims that have been made about you, how would you go about restoring fans' trust in you?
2. How do you plan on fulfilling your personal services contract with the Astros?
3. Do you want to pitch again?
Nobody in their right mind believes you. NOBODY! Wouldn't it be easier to just tell the truth instead of taking the Pete Rose route? BTW, you were always overrated as a pitcher. Thanks!
Oh, one more question.
You named your children Koby, Kory, Kody, and Kacy. If/when you birth a child from one of your multiple extramarital affairs, would that child be so lucky as to have a name that starts with the letter "K"?
THANKS ROCKET!
Wouldn't it be better for everyone if you just apologized and moved on? There isn't any real way you can prove a negative and virtually everyone who cares has already formed their opinion. You aren't going to change it.
You're only digging yourself in deeper every time you speak about it. Swallow your pride, issue a vague apology and let's all move on.
From your perspective, please describe what a realistic, positive ending to this story would be. And, if I may follow up, what actions are you taking to see that this comes to pass?
Thanks.
Since you've failed as a baseball player, do you plan on going back to college to get a (real) degree, in hopes of someday succeeding (honestly) at an occupation?
Other thoughts:
Pettitte is one of my favorite players. What do you think of him? His honesty and modesty are admirable.
I'm so, so glad my Dad was faithful to my Mother. What a great guy. Our family is tremendously close - for many reasons - none of which is veiled behind the need of the wife and children to suckel from the teet of everflowing (illgotten) dollars.
Thanks Roger. Have a great day.
PS...Do you have blue balls, now that ESPN so abruptly stopped with the fellatio?
Ahh Rocket, when will you learn? Being an arrogant jackass every single day in court and throughout your whole ordeal all those months ago is not going to be undone. Throwing your wife, throwing andy pettite, and everyone else under the bus in the process.
Even if you were strictly """"""""hypothetically"""""" clean, who would believe you?
Why not just tell the truth then? Or how about even after the first few months you lied about it? Little fishy no to come clean now? There's nothing else to it, it's not like you couldn't have spoken up during the trials.
roger, props for being willing to take our questions. obviously the crowd has decided against staying classy - shock!
here is my question: I have heard you mention and others that you passed drug tests for steroids in 2003 and later. Are those public? Did your record improve or tank after the period you were accused of taking steroids?
Wow! You're career is in the toilet! Everything you have worked hard for is being trashed and a lot of people don't respect you. How does that make you feel?
jesus christ you guys are tough - not a houstonite here but curious to know, roger, i have heard they have a needle with your dna and a vile that had steroids but never that the two were connected. is your argument that this was a set up?
Hey clemens - you're a loser, a has-been washed up ex-athlete. You're lower than Barry Bonds. Mike Piazza seems like a great guy. I hope the steroid use was worth it!
My question - who is a bigger loser, you or your brother Randy? On one hand, he was a druggie loser but at least he fessed up to his problems. You, also a druggie loser, still claim to be innocent (a lie). If i ever see you around houston, i'll tell you what a loser you are to your face.
If you and Greg Maddux were on the same ballot and only one of you could be a unanimous inductee, who would you vote for?
Do you think you would you clearly remember if one of your best friends (a professional athlete in a highly scrutinized sport) told you he used HGH or Steroids?
If you could change one key decision you made during your career what would it be?
do you think you will ever get into the Hall Of Fame?
& seriously, with so many other players now admitting PED use (like an allstar team list), with positive test results looming from 03, with the prevalence of PEDS & the pressure to use them & the fact that your physical appearance & on-field performance mirrored those very conditions - please explain how we are to believe that you just happen to be the one exception - the one guy caught in a rainstorm but somehow never got wet like everyone else?
Really, Roger? You thought it was the ball? When you chucked a broken bat at Mike Piazza in the World Series? I know you were a head hunter, but when did you ever throw a ball at a player running to first base?
When Brian McNamee asked you on that taped phone call "what do you want me to do?" why didn't you ask him to just tell the truth? He sounded desperate to help.
Bostonist gots to know...
Well, how nice that we get the chance to ask Roger Clemens a question and all we have here are people responding with 5th grader comments and bashing.
I would like to make a comment before asking my question.
First, it' is amazing to me that people who do not know you personally have already made judgements based on media reporting. It's quite comical actually that we in this country have gotten to the point where we cannot think or read for ourselves. We listen to the media and believe everything that is reported. Really sad.
I am apparently one of the few that has actually read the documents and "evidence" against you on the congressional website. What I find interesting, is that there are absolutely no documents or interviews that were conducted besides the one with Mr. McNamee where you have been accused of even having a conversation about steroids. And what is more, even Mr. McNamee said in his deposition that he never really had any conversations with you about it. I find that odd that he is telling the investigators he injected you but there is not one test that you failed, nor one other person that can corroborate Mr. McNamee testimony against you. However, he can seem to remember what your Nanny was wearing at this barbeque that seems to be the lynch pin in all of this, yet Mr. McNamee says in his deposition that he asked the federal investigators to remove the statement that he saw you purchasing steroids at Jose Canseco's bbq, but they refused. It is also interesting to note that Mr. McNamee states in his deposition that long before the Mitchell Report was released, he was "shopping a book because he had nothing better to do." That is suspicious.
My first question to you is why do you believe that Mr. McNamee brought these allegations against you?
I know that most people in this country tend to gravitate to the negative with people who have done great things with their lives due to their own feelings jealousy and inadequacy. But one would think that you would have the benefit of the doubt before an admitted drug dealer and rapist.
And my second question is do you believe that you will get a chance to present your side of the story in a court of law?
And if you do not, what will be your recourse if any? Will you write a book?
My last question is, I have a son who is a pitcher in high school, if you had once piece of advice that you could give him regarding pitching what would it be?
I have a 2 part question. According too http://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/leaders_salaries.shtml
, you've made over $121 Million in career salary during your baseball career.
My first question is, with all that money you've made do you really care what people say about your leagacy? Really? With $121 Million in the bank wouldn't it just make more sense to keep your mouth shut and move to an island?
Second question, does it bother you that Mike Hampton has made more money than you? As big a failure as he is, people seem to be less disappointed in him than you. And yet he's got you beat in the bankroll. Does that keep you up at night?
Roger – since you’re not a lawyer, you are not always able to craft for yourself the best arguments, but there are several points I am surprised you don’t make.
First, people keep saying that because Andy Pettite and Chuck Knoblauch confirmed McNamee’s stories about them, we should believe his story about you. The line is “why would he tell the truth about them and not you.” But what they all leave out is that McNamee’s stories have not been confirmed by all the athletes he has accused. David Justice and Jose Conseco have both denied the stories that McNamee has told about them. So it is not just you who is calling a McNamee a liar.
Second, a lot of people say that McNamee did not dare lie after he made his deal with prosecutors, because he could have gone to jail. The problem is, he definitely did lie even after he made his deal. The prosecutors, and the Mitchell people, no doubt asked McNamee if he had any physical evidence to back up his claims, and he said no. But after you went public against him, he magically came up with the pads and syringes he claimed to have saved. So he either lied when he said he had no physical evidence, or manufactured the evidence and falsely claimed it was genuine. Either way, there is no doubt he lied after making his deal.
Third, with regard to Andy Pettitte, people always criticize your for saying that Andy misremembered. But if one reads Andy’s deposition, it is immediately apparent that he did. He claims to have had conversations with you and McNamee in late 1999 or early 2000 in which you both said that you had used HGH. But McNamee says he never gave you HGH until the 2000 season, 6 to 9 months after Andy claimed to have these conversations. So Andy completely contradicts McNamee. The Democrats’ lawyer recognized this in the deposition.
However, Andy did not want to testify in person, and instead gave an affidavit, in which the dates of his conversations mysteriously changed to a more vague timeline. I know you don’t like to impugn Andy, but one has to wonder if the investigators encouraged him to change the dates of his conversation in exchange for his not having to appear in person.
Fourth, recent revelations by Kirk Radomski about a shipment to your house have been portrayed as damaging your story, but you should point out they actually support your story and contradict McNamee. Radomski says in 2002 or 2003 he shipped HGH addressed to you, care of McNamee, at McNamee's request (Radomski has never communicated with you). McNamee claims he injected you with HGH only in 2000, so that shipment could not have been to inject you. The shipment did occur around the time Debbie was injected. But McNamee testified that he had no idea where the HGH injected into Debbie came from -- he says you just pulled it out of a bag and gave it to him. So either McNamee lied, and he got the HGH for Debbie from Radomski, or the HGH was for some reason totally unrelated to you.
Since journalists seem unable or unwilling to realize these and other big holes in the allegations against you, it is up to you to point them out, or the public will never know.
@Cinderelly25
are you forgetting that Andy Pettite has testified that Clemens told him that he used PEDs?
why would his own best friend on the team lie? what does pettite have to gain?!? certainly not a book deal.
Roger,
1. What is truth?
2. One sandwich? I go with french Dip. I know larry King is in my corner. Yourself?
3. What are your thoughts on The Oxford Comma?
4. What I am is what I am, you what you are or what?
5. What does Mineral Ice on The testicles feellike?
6. A follow up if I might-Steve Donohue. Easy with the hands or sandpapery? he seems like a bear.
7. is their one true religion? I have my suspicions, but ya can't be too careful (LOL).
8. Lost. What the fuck? Amirite?!
Thanks a bunch,
Mike
Roger
The problem with a lie isn't the lie itself; it's that no one can trust you. That is the trouble here as you obviosly lied to the House and all sports fans when you said you knew nothing of steroids or needles, but witnessed your wife being injected. I really love my wife, and there is no way I or any loving husband would allow what you allowed without knowledge of what was being injected. Oh... I forgot, there were many other ladies you were injecting at the time as well! I'm sure you are one proud man today. I'm sure you know the real problem and trouble here; you will NEVER live the truth and the rest of your life is a total lie. I'm sure that's why you acted this week. I'll bet it's a lonely miserable existence, surrounded by millions of dollars and all those lies!!
Cheers- It's never to late to tell the truth.
May God have mercy.
I didn't see a question there, Howie.
Howie - I find your ramblings distracting.
No one wants to hear about you 'injecting' your wife... unless you send some photos. Preferably with her in her Pentecostal Sunday best.
A lie is a lie and that IS the problem. The root. Unless we're talking about the whole 'jailbait' thing, and c'mon, who wouldnt lie about that?
@tideturns
As luck would have it, I actually read Andy Pettitte's deposition. As I recall Andy Pettitte did not "testify" because he didn't want to have his father brought into the situation because his father was the one who provided him with the second set of injections that Andy Pettitte conveniently did not reveal or lied about to the public in the beginning. Which by the way his father purchased at a gym near Andy Pettittes home that just happened to be owned by andy Pettittes brother in law. Andy says in his deposition that Roger Clemens and he were having a normal conversation and Roger Clemens told him that he had "heard" that HGH helped you recover. What's more is that in 2004 when Andy Pettitts elbow was still bothering him, he states that he went to Brian McNamee and asked what he could do and McNamee suggested HGH.
So, why wouldn't Andy Pettitte, if he supposedly knew Roger Clemens was using HGH, and they are as you say, best friends, why wouldn't Andy Pettitte go to Roger Clemens instead of McNamee?
@ Howie Please leave God out of your responses here. It's quite obvious you don't KNOW Him.
What effect do you feel this controversy has had on Koby's career? What advice are you giving him to deal with a potential life in the big leagues should he make it. Do you feel his chances are any lessened by public sentiment despite his own talents?
Also, tell us all what your foundation does and any recent work.
Thanks,
Mark
TXHunk09, you've lost the narrative thread!
As a community, we do not log in to Houstonist to sate our needs for smut or "deposits in the spank bank" as it were.
That being said, Howie did put it out there.
So, anyway, Howie make with the photos. You can't just make oblique references to your wife being "injected" and just leave it at that. It's just not cricket, baby.
Do you have any pics. of said wife riding the bologna pony? I think the entire Houstonist community (particularly "The Rocket") would be interested in seeing these. You talk of your "love" for her. let's see that love. In a mnaly way.
Peace and chicken grease,
Mike
Enough nonsense about Howie's 'wife'. We have a legendary player who, until recently, was guaranteed a spot in the Hall of Fame.
Let's get back to our questions for The Rocket. And Mr. Clemens, again, thanks so much for being willing to do this.
My question, Rocket - If we could guarantee you that Howie's special lady were under 18, wouldn't you want to see some photos? Maybe the tasteful boudoir shots she had professionally done for their anniversary, maybe the more...'Hustler-esque' series she sent me for my birthday?
Please fill us in on your thoughts.
TXHunk09, I'm intrigued by your ideas and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
You rapscallion.
Anybody got any weed?
Hit me up.
At the risk of sounding churlish, I'm dismayed by the downturn in this thread.
Mr. Clemens has availed himself to us, irreagrdless of his motives.
This can be used as a valuable lesson to our children and I, as a father of three, was eager to hear his responses. But apparently, Howie, MFIB and TXHunk09 have deemed this an opportunity to engage in discussion of their prurient, distatasteful vices.
Howie, you seem like a man of God.
I'm disappointed in you the most.
Yours In Christ,
Tim.
Tim-Tim,
As a "man of God", I'll thank you to not lump me in with Howie and his daughter pimping ways.
Thanks a bunch, "Tim Shady".
Let's not get too high and mighty here, and 'Tim-Tim' enough with the high hat. WE'RE TALKING ABOUT THE ROCKET HERE. C'mon.I'd say any topic is fair game, and I wouldn't be surprised if The Rocket has some choice comments on all of the above topics.
Roger?
And a side comment, TT. I know your kids. You'd better keep a real good watch on them....especially the plump one.
Fat kids are harder to kidnap.
Let's not get off message here.
let's talk about something we can all agree on.
Howie's wife. Photos.
Anyone know Howie?
Post photos of his wife.
Also, Tim's wife/partner.
Ugh....
Leave me out of this please.
Tim-Tim wears jorts.
Tim-Tim ate all the Cracklin' Oat bran.
Tim-Tim played Sun City.
Questions, people. Questions. Thanks.
Why is Tim-Tim being such a jerk?
I signed up for this site specifically to ask questions of the man, the myth, the ROCKET, and check out other's questions and all i see are dudes on here making stupid cracks who'd never even PLAYED sports or known more than stats and whatnot......talking trash. TimTim? Howie? Give me a break - go back to Yeshiva classes and boarding school and let us speak with a REAL MAN.
Rocket. By now the truth seems to have leaked out, whatever your earlier PUBLIC stance. You could take this as an OPPORTUNITY to stand up for yourself and every other athelete who sees NOTHING WRONG with using whatever means neccessary to build our physiques and improve our performance. There is a REASON that performance enhancing drugs enhance perfromance --- they work. There is a REASON steroid users break records. It improves us.
You would be a HERO to SO MANY real people out there. Think about it.
We can be all excited about putting a man on the moon or building solar plants but a simple drug - a TOOL - is frownned upon. I blame the MEDIA, Howie. Let's hear some nonsense from you now....
Please respond ROGER
I've have asked on multiple occasions to not be linked to that Phillistine Howie.
DBOLDANNY, what is the problem? You sound angry.
Have you taken too much (wink wink) "creatine" today?
Quite frankly, i'm nonplussed.
Now, that we've gotten that out of the way. Got any pictures of Howie's wife?
DBOLDANNY- Spot me!
I have a question, Roger?
What has two thumbs and loves blow jobs?
Wow Houston. Way to go, and you wonder why celebs stay away from opening up to us? Geesh!
Do yourself a favor Mr. Clemens, withdraw the offer to answer questions, what a waste of time.
I am truly embarrassed by these people.
Cinderelly,
Where's the strangest place you've ever made whoopie?
Roger, please shut up. Don't you know we're sick of you.
Tim-tim,
If you can show me a dictionary that has the word irreagrdless I'd like to see it. And you are all over Roger? Roger can still speak better than you can pitch.
