Fire At KPFT

KPFT has been on the air since 1970.
Some time today, while repairs were being made at KPFT, an accidental fire broke out causing damage to the roof and interior parts of the building. The building was evacuated while HFD extinguished the fire. There were no injuries.

The majority of the damage was contained to the roof above the live studio and near the front entrance. KPFT remains on the air and broadcasting.

KPFT can be found at 90.1 FM and is listener supported, commercial-free radio that is one of five stations that comprises the Pacifica Radio Network. The four other Pacifica stations are located in Berkeley, NYC, Los Angeles and Washington D.C. Ninety percent of funding for KPFT comes from the community and their listeners.

KPFT
was established in March of 1970 and during it's beginning twice endured their transmitter being bombed resulting in weeks of dead air. Since then, the building has been attacked and shot at but remains on the air.
