As a kid, Houstonist would spend every summer break hanging out at the Community Center/Library in our hometown, where Mom dropped us off each morning on her way to work.
So it's with a sense of nostalgia that we write about all the great things going on this summer at the Houston Public Library. Like tonight's reading and signing with "Lone Star Legend" Gwen Zepeda.
Zepeda is probably best known around these parts for her witty blog, but she's also found a niche in the world of paperback fiction. She doesn't just write chic lit — she's one of the few writers in the world writing Latina chic lit, most of it based on her experiences and people she knew growing up in a Hispanic family in the Bayou City.
In addition, Zepeda has found success writing bilingual childrens' books, including her very popular book, "Growing Up With Tamales".
Tonight she'll be reading from "Houston, We Have a Problema", and will also be singing copies of her newest book for kids, "Sunflowers".
