This just in from a tip on the Houston Architecture info forum - there is a blaze near Wilshire Village apartments located at West Alabama and Dunlavy streets.
The City of Houston active incident report verifies this:

Update - the fire may be at the smaller West Alabama Place complex across the street at 1648 W Alabama.
Update 2 - eight upstairs units at the West Alabama Place apartments were damaged and the fire seems to have started in the attic.
