Weekendist May 22 - 25: Shampooch, Girl Shy, Tour de Hood

052209_shampooch.jpg Be careful out there this holiday weekend, friends. The cops will be out in full force to bust drunk drivers (and boaters) and the heat will be trying to take you down. It's better to stay in the air conditioning, at one of Houstonist's hand-picked events below:

Friday

Saturday

  • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Shampooch — The Houston Humane Society has teamed up with Whole Foods Market for a dog wash benefiting the HHS. Stop by any of the four Houston-area Whole Foods Market stores this Saturday from to get your dog washed by an HHS volunteer. Participating stores include Kirby, Bellaire, Woodway and Wilcrest. Donations go towards the Humane Society.

Sunday

  • 7 a.m. — Tour de Hood, a 26-mile adventure through Houston's six historic wards. Houstonist thinks this is meant to be what the Tour de Houston started out as: a ride through the best parts of our city (i.e. not north and back on the Hardy Toll Road). Designated rest stops at each ward will feature information and history about the six wards.

Monday

  • It's a holiday! Practically everything's closed. You're off, if you're lucky. Go to the beach, or the dog park, or Discovery Green. Enjoy the day before the weather gets too hot.
