For the Weekend of May 28th - 31st, 2009
Could someone please tell us what happened to the first five months of the year? Is it really almost June? Granted, this explains why it's so hot and humid outside - summer has finally arrived in Houston. For H-Town Rock, this means that venues aren't afraid to host events outside and the festival season can truly begin in earnest. If you haven't ever enjoyed the music of your favorite acts in front of a huge outdoor stage amidst a throng of sweating strangers, then you haven't really lived yet.
This weekend might not bring any festivals through town, but there is plenty of great music to enjoy. Mango's should be packed to the gills on Thursday evening with the Elaine Greer CD Release Show, though I wouldn't be surprised if Walter's had a decent crowd for the Manchester Orchestra set. Friday brings the inimitable B. B. King to the Arena Theater, but even the most hipster-averse amongst you would and should enjoy getting your groove on to the sounds of Dave Wrangler at Boondocks (complete with appearances by Cornbreadd, Fat Tony, and more). While our crazy roommate will most likely be at Walter's for Fired For Walking on Saturday night, we're split between rocking out at The Meridian with King's X and Low Man's Joe or digging the experimental electronic sounds of The Juan McLean, The Field, and Ceeplus Bad Knives at Numbers.
