H-Town Rock

For the Weekend of June 11th - 14th, 2009

The great part about this weekend is that, not only is there a fairly solid amount of music about town, but we're not too conflicted about what shows we'll be attending. Usually, there are a couple of decent events each night vying desperately for our attention. Not this time - we know exactly where we'll be (and we'd love it for you to join us).

On Thursday night, we'll happily brave the swarms of skinny jeans, dorky sunglasses, and fixed-gear bicycles over at Mango's for the Wild Moccasins tour kick-off show: besides being in love with that band's tasty pop jams, it's always a joy to see B L A C K I E work his magic. When Friday night rolls around, we will count ourselves privileged to enjoy the sights and sounds of Bolt, Benjamin Wesley, and the illustrious Cornbreadd, though something tells us that the benefit concert over at The Orange Show might be a decent event to attend. As the weekend rolls along, we'd love the chance to remember the music of our middle school days (ya know, back when MTV actually played music videos) over at the Arena Theater, but we'll be at The Mink on Saturday night for Something Fierce and Fat Tony. And while our pseudo-kicker little brother will be reveling in the outlaw country of David Allen Coe at the House Of Blues, we're going to trek out to OTB for mewithoutYou.

Notable acts of unintentional comedy for this weekend include: Yanni performing at Toyota Center (he really sells that many tickets?!?) and the unholy abomination that will be the Rascal Flatts and Darius Rucker show up at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. Darius Rucker attempting reinventing himself as a country act is akin to the guys in Third Eye Blind trying to find fresh live as a speed-metal act.
