H-Town Rock

For the Week of June 15th-17th, 2009

First off, let us offer our sincere apologies for not posting at our normal 2:00 pm time slot. We know that on Monday you sit around at work, pretending to "do things," browsing the interwebs and patiently awaiting your semiweekly installment of H-Town Rock. You can blame it on the regime change if you like - our music correspondent, the venerable Adam P. Newton, has passed down the torch [mic? headphones?] to us.

As far as the music goes, it seems this third week of June is a tad sparse. We know plenty of folks that'll attend Monday's David Byrne show at Jones Hall. Our hippie barista friends are certain to catch the raucous, fun-loving Sideshow Tramps at Avant Garden. If our Dad were in town, we'd probably break our "no venues with seats" rule and head to Arena Theatre to indulge in one of our guilty pleasures, but instead we'll probably slum over to Boondocks and check out some good local rock. Tuesday is a challenge with its dearth of shows, so we're going to opt to check out the weirdness assured us at Super Happy Fun Land. Wednesday proves to have a stronger offering, and while we're certain that the neon and gold lamé adorned, sunglasses at night crowd will populate Boondocks for a dance party, we're hoping some people will trot down to The Mink for KEXP-approved Red Collar, whose Springsteen-meets-Fugazi brand of rock has made us wonder just what would happen if Ian MacKaye and The Boss aligned forces.
