H-Town Rock

For the Weekend of June 18th-21st, 2009

papermoons.jpg Well if the shows were thin during the first half of the week, there's an over-abundance of shows going on this weekend, and it certainly seems to be a quantity-over-quality situation. Fear not, dear concert-goer, H-Town Rock is here to guide you through the labyrinth and help you defeat the minotaur of weekend boredom.

Tonight is simple: avoid the disenfranchised teenagers at the rock shows and slum it with the cool kids at our favorite dive in town, Walter's on Washington, for what appears to be a pretty good math-rock show. If it were a different Friday, we might head to Rudyard's for the Born Liars/Welfare Mothers/Balaclavas show, but we simply cannot pass on Papermoons and Buxton at The Mink. It's always nice to see Matt and Daniel back in town, and we missed them last time around.

Saturday offers a few options for those of you who enjoy larger acts. We're certain the majority of Houston's 'bro' population will be present at Toyota Center to watch Dane Cook, that there will be a significant collection of the flock attending Reverend Horton Heat at House of Blues, and the hip-hop heads will trek over to Warehouse Live to watch Bun B and Friends. You won't find us downtown though, as we'll be at either 2502 LaBranch or Super Happy Fun Land.

We're gonna keep Sunday family friendly by steering clear of the "Blood, Sweat, and Beers" concert/bike show at Gary's Spot [although we're curious as to how a 'bike and pole dancing competition' works] and once again brave the hipster masses to catch Ear Pwr's electro-pop madness at Mango's.

Where will you be, Houston? If we missed something just let us know in the comments.
