Ben Kweller Welches On Houston, Opts For Minute Maid

kweller.jpg Yesterday, as mentioned in our last H-Town Rock post, there was supposed to be a Ben Kweller concert at House of Blues. Prior to the show Ben was also going to play an in-store at Houston's beloved Cactus Music and sign some autographs.

Well, it seems Mr. Kweller had to cancel his singing engagements due to a pretty rough sore throat. Ben tried to make the most out of his day though, which apparently didn't sit too well with some folks.

After being told that he had been a bit of a dick, Ben informed us [ok, the world, but that includes us] via his Twitter that there had been a communication breakdown, or he would have shown up at Cactus to at least shake some hands. He then apologized for his less-than-considerate move.

It sounded pretty sincere to us, so we'll let it slide. There's no word yet on a rescheduled date, but we're betting Ben probably won't spend the day at Minute Maid next time he's in town.

Didn't he also cancel or quit a concert early a couple of years ago at Numbers? I vaguely remember something like that happening. Anyone?

Back in 2004 during his tour with Death Cab for Cutie they had to cancel because of some electrical problem at Numbers.

I tried going to that in-store at Cactus yesterday and I thought I was so cool for finding parking at 5:30.

First of all Ben didn't cancel his HOB show, it actually went on and it was a great show. Second, had you bothered to show up to the show you would have had an explanation of what happened with the Cactus show. And just to throw another thing out there, the game at minute maid ended well before the cactus set was supposed to happen, so that shouldn't even be taken into consideration here. I've known Ben for a long time and you can take anything he says with sincerity. I'd highly recommend trying to get the facts about what is really going on, before posting things like this in the future. Just my thoughts.

Thanks for filling us in on the show, we weren't aware that it had still been held. As far as the facts go, that's the only one we were missing, though. If you'll read the article again, at no point did we accuse Ben of anything; we merely reported on the dialogue that occurred between Ben, Cactus, and a local fan via Twitter. Check the links for the details.

Personally, we could care less if he goes to see a ball game while in town, as long as he's got the time. Hell, we'd buy him a beer if we saw him there.

I know that headlines are there for a purpose and that's to grab attention, which this one obviously did. However, judging from your headline, it doesn't seem like you were "merely reporting on the dialogue that occurred...". Don't want to be the guy bitchin about things, but I do hope that in the future the full story is known before it gets "reported", or at least the post/headline is referenced as a report on dialogue that occured indirectly through twitter.

Aw, come now. That's only one of the best puns we'll get to use all year in reference to an Astros game.
