ALL WEEKEND
- Dock Dogs. Televised on the Outdoor Channel, DockDogs competition consists of dogs jumping into water from a designated dock with the largest or highest leap earning that canine a victory. Dogs and owners travel to Houston to compete, and the competition will be open to local dogs too. At Jones Lawn in Discovery Green. See schedule here
- PRIDE, events throughout the weekend, culminating in the Houston Pride Parade at 8:45 p.m. Saturday, along Westheimer at Montrose.
- Extremely Shorts 12 at Aurora Picture Show, Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m. Aurora's most popular event, featuring dozens of films under five minutes and the annual Aurora Picture Show birthday picnic. Tickets $6-$12 for non-members, free for members on Saturday and $10 for members Sunday. At Molly Gochman's Studio, 2442 Bartlett St.
FRIDAY
- 6-10 p.m. — Mixers and Elixers at Houston Museum of Natural Science, featuring a live band under the dinosaurs, appetizers and an open bar. Tickets $12 for museum members, $15 for non-members.
- 7 p.m. — Aerosol Warfare's Blow Up Houston exhibition. Fifty blank vinyl toys decorated by local artists, on display until July 31. Reception at 2110 Jefferson, Suite 113. Free.
- Steel Lounge Underground at the Contemporary Arts Museum, featuring live music by the Ton Tons. Drinks and snacks too. Free.
SATURDAY
- Noon to 9 p.m. — Karma Houston Garden Party featuring live music and art from several of Houston's biggest DJs and art collectives. Including live sculpture, performance art and installations. At Eleanor Tinsley Park, 500 Allen Parkway (at Sabine Street). Free.
- 2 p.m. — Reception and book signing with Katherine Howe, author of The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane. At the Brown Auditorium in the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. Free.
