For the Week of July 6th - 8th, 2009
We hope everyone had a booze and band-filled Fourth of July. We wound up at a pretty kickass show at Super Happy Fun Land. The past, however is past. Here's what's coming up this week in Houston.
Monday's offerings include rockers Candlebox [we still remember our friend Arthur trying to teach us that one song back in high school] and two varieties of punk. If you want old school dirty punk then head to The Mink, if you want girl-fronted London punk go to Walter's on Washington, and if you want to drive to the boonies and hang out with teenagers then catch Peachcake at Javajazz.
If [we'll continue the hypothetical posturing theme we've got going already] you're into pop-ridden female songwriters, we suggest checking out former Houstonian Betty Soo's CD release at McGonigel's on Tuesday. You'll find us at Super Happy Fun Land again, lost in the mellow cloud that is Good Night & Good Morning, and Fayetville's Timber.
If, on Wednesday, you just absolutely have no soul, then we'll allow you to skip the Dave Rask Memorial/Benefit at Avant Garden. Our apologies to Tax the Wolf, we like what they are doing but this is simply more important. For those of you who aren't aware, Dave passed away three weeks ago. The show, which is packed full of great local acts including Sara Van Buskirk, Finnegan, and The Gold Sounds [hands down one of our favorite acts in town], is an effort to raise money to help Dave's family pay off the debt he left. So go support this most worthy of causes by donating some coin. We hear there will be a bake sale, a collection of Dave's never-released music, and that some of his artwork will be auctioned as well.
Tell us where you'll be partaking of musical goodness this week. The full calendar is now conveniently located after the jump.
