Take a stroll through most Houston neighborhoods and you'll notice some peculiarities. Perhaps you'll find a skyscraper miles from downtown, smack in the middle of what appears to be a residential and retail district. Maybe a rollercoaster will pop up from behind a 60's ranch house. Our unique urban landscape is due in part to the lack of land-use and zoning ordinances, which will be up for debate tonight at the Contemporary Arts Museum.
NOZONE: Houston's Mayoral Forum on Land Use will feature Houston's mayoral candidates and will be moderated by conceptual artist and professor Mary Ellen Carroll, who has researched the impact of land use on Houston and other urban areas. The forum will take place in conjunction with the current CAMH exhibition No Zoning: Artists Engage Houston. If the Mayoral Forum on the Arts is any indication, NOZONE should be a spirited conversation and a great introduction to the candidates on the ballot this fall.
