H-Town Rock

For the Weekend of July 9th - July 12th, 2009

buxton.jpg Sweet crispy bacon, children! This weekend has so much music it makes us wish we could get that deal Michael Keaton got. Normally we're able to be fairly choosy and navigate our way through the concert muck, but have you seen this weekend's lineup? Oh, you haven't? Well, we've put it all together for you after the jump.

Thursday is our only easy choice, so we'll be found at Mango's for Young Mammals' tour kickoff, which features Fat Tony and possibly the best band name in Houston, Hamamatsu Tom & His Amazing Band of Bareback Hell Stallions. If you feel like shaking that thang, however, head over to Escobar for Major Lazer.

We'll let you blame it on the alcohol if you wind up at Reliant Park Friday, or you could go out to the Woodlands and take your chances asking Chicago to play their songs backwards, but let us offer you a few recommendations. For a chill show with a good songwriter, catch Bob Schneider at Mucky Duck. Also available is Houston pop songwriter Tody Castillo at The Continental Club, local rockers at Warehouse Live, and a sweet indie show at Mango's. What to do, what to do?

Honestly, we made up our minds long ago as to where we'll be on Saturday: at Mango's for Buxton's Feathers/Flint 7" release [it's amazing] with Wild Moccasins and our favorite dancy duo, Ghost Mountain. Austin's Monofonus Press is putting on a doozy of a show at Super Happy Fun Land that we will probably swing by, it's Nava's birthday at Warehouse Live, and Woozyhelmet is on the bill at The Mink. Plus, you'll definitely catch us at Cactus at 3 pm to see Benjamin Wesley and drink down a St. Arnold's or two.

Even Sunday is full this week, and we've got friends playing all over the place. Golden Cities at Mango's, Bolt at Boondocks, and Hotel Hotel at Super Happy Fun Land are all tempting choices. It's the lineup at The Mink that we're most excited about, however, with Hollywood Black, Listen Listen, and Nashville's Timbre should be a really solid show. Seriously, she plays the harp - who do you know that plays the harp? That's right, so go watch her and be amazed.

Where will you be found this weekend? Let us know in the comments.
