Houstonist Was There: Dave Rask Memorial & Benefit Show

Houstonist stopped at Avant Garden on Wednesday night to take in the memorial/benefit show for local musician Dave Rask, who passed away on June 18th. We were not direct friends with Rask, but had several friends in common and had seen him play a number of times. The show, coordinated by Dave's friends and family, was a rousing success, as Avant Garden was filled with people who chose to honor Rask in what seems a most fitting manner: putting on a fine show.

All the money raised by the show, including the cover, bake sale, and raffle, is being given to Rask's parents to assist in paying for the funeral, hospital bills, and Life Flight helicopter. If you could not make the show and are interested in donating some funds, be it $5 or $5000, please let us know and we'll pass your information along to the family. You can send an e-mail to marc[at]houstonist[dot]com.

We hope that someday, when we've departed from this life, our friends will have a party in our honor that was half as good as this. Well done, folks.
