Weekendist July 17-19: Dog Days of Summer

  • SpaceFest: 40th Anniversary of the Lunar Landing, including exhibits, a screening of the original lunar landing footage and more. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. See link for details.
  • Reliant Dog Show featuring a variety of breeds competing in everything from agility to flyball. Tickets are $10 at the gate, $15 for both days. 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Reliant Arena.

FRIDAY

  • 6 p.m. — $timulus opening reception at Diverseworks, featuring new works by the 2008 awardees of Artadia grants. Also featuring the Buffet, "a new Houston-based video collective and DVD publication of videos by a variety of artists, organized into delicious feasts for the eyes." Free, at 1117 E. Freeway (Vine Street at Naylor.)
  • 7 p.m. — Mixers and Elixirs at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, featuring Mango Punch. Sip cocktails amid the bones. Tickets are $15.

SATURDAY

  • 10 a.m. — Houston Public Library's Government Documents Open House, featuring documents on display in celebration of HPL's 125-year history as an official government document depository. Free, at the Central Library, 500 McKinney.
  • Noon — Kingpinz Summer Session street skate contest at Lee & Joe Jamail Skatepark, 103 Sabine Street. Entry and practice starts at noon. Grommet Run starts at 3:15 p.m. Best Trick Contest starts at 4:15 p.m. Free.
  • Noon — Sketches and Pints, Dr. Sketchy Burlesque Art Show and St. Arnold Brewery Tour. Five bucks to get in, plus extra if you wanna buy artwork. 2522 Fairway Park Dr
  • 6 p.m. — Houston Roller Derby's HaRD Knocks vs. Texas Rollergirls' Honky Tonk Heartbreakers from Austin. Those with tickets from last month's postponed bout can get tickets for half off ($7). All else pay $15. At Kicks, 611 Shepherd Drive.

SUNDAY

  • 7 p.m. — Houston Pride Idol honors Michael Jackson at Boheme, featuring the Pride Idol Singers, a dance tribute from the Swagg Boiz and free food.
