Congrats to the '600 sq mi' artists

You may remember a few weeks ago when we went on and on about 600 sq mi: Hidden, Houstonist's second biennial photo show. Well, we're not finished yet: Today, 45 photographers got notice that their work was selected to be part of the show, and we couldn't be more excited about seeing their photos on the gallery wall this fall. Check after the jump for these photographers' names, and congratulate them if you know them (or even if you don't).

We're not ready to show you the photos just yet — you'll see some of them in the coming weeks, and the rest when the show opens in October — but we will say that they'll give you a new perspective on Houston, which is exactly what we hoped the "Hidden" theme would do. Big thanks to Madeline Yale of Houston Center for Photography, our super-dedicated juror, who sifted through a few hundred entries to pick the 60-ish that will hang on the gallery wall. And, of course, huge thanks to all the photographers who submitted their work: We know each photo represents early mornings and late nights, seeking out little-known corners of the city and waiting for exactly the right lighting and angles and subjects. You guys are all incredibly talented, and you constantly amaze us.

So now what? Photographers, if your work was picked for the show, there's an e-mail in your box telling you so. And for everyone else, mark the 600 sq mi opening reception on your calendars: It'll be 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at Xnihilo Gallery, 2115 Taft St. in the Montrose. See you then.
