Weekendist July 31 to August 2: Coffee Groundz, Westerns and Smashburgers

  • 5 p.m. — Coffee Groundz Two-Year Anniversary. Live local music and drink specials all evening, with some proceeds going towards Friday Habour, a local charity. Free admission.
  • 7 p.m. — Leave Your Genre at the Door, a menage Houston artists of varying music styles. MC'd by (You)Genius. Fitzgerald's, 2706 White Oak Drive. $10 bucks, all ages.
  • 8 p.m. — High Noon presented by Aurora Picture Show at the Menil. The 1952 film tells the story of a town marshal who is forced to face a gang of killers by himself. Starring Grace Kelly and Gary Cooper — double meow! Free! 1515 Sul Ross.
  • Making Moves (Art + Dance Party) at Zeppelin, 3101 San Jacinto at Elgin. Art curated by Reprogram's J Paul Jackson featuring works from Eli Sebastian Brumbaugh, Leosapien and more. Music by Ceeplus Bad Knives, G-Wizz, J Calero, Mr Castillo and special guest Yppah from Ninja Tune Records. Sorry, no idea on pricing because their listing doesn't say a damn thing about it.

SATURDAY

  • All day — Buy a Texas Burger at any Smashburger location in town and they'll donate $1 to the Houston Food Bank. Our editor says they're damn good burgers, too.
  • 6 p.m. — The Roundwall Rumble at Lee & Joe Jamail Skatepark. Featuring $500 in cash as well as prizes. Free to enter, free to watch.
  • 6-10 p.m. — White Linen Nights in the Heights, featuring art, live music, food, markets, cocktails and more, along 19th St and Heights Blvd.
