H-Town Rock

For the Weekend of August 6th - 9th

ofmontreal.jpg Sweet mother of fat Elvis, Batman! This weekend is going to rock. We're going to go ahead and just lay this out there now: you should be at the Free Press Summer Fest this Saturday and Sunday. Some very fine folks have been bustin' their keesters to make sure it happens, so put some money where your mouth is and help support what will hopefully turn into an annual event here in Houston.

Other than that, here's what Houstonist recommends for the weekend. Tonight we'll be taking in the early show at Rudyard's to see Benjamin Wesley's mind-boggling multitasking, and then we plan to hop over to The Continental Club for Runaway Sun. Afterwards we'll make the jump to Super Happy Fun Land so we can catch The Goods - one of our favorite local garage rock outfits - and our friends Hollywood Black.

Friday's got a few big names on the list, with Crüe Fest in The Woodlands and a chunk of Def Jam's roster stopping in to House of Blues. We plan to drop in to Cactus Music for the day show before catching either Tax the Wolf at Dean's or Mark Slim at Charlie's Big Top.

As mentioned previously, we will be out at Tinsley Park, baking in the heat on Saturday and Sunday. If you simply must, however, see some other music, there are a few notables playing on Saturday: George Straight and Green Day will be packing out the sports arenas, and if it weren't for Summer Fest you'd find Houstonist at Warehouse Live for Bob Schneider. Sunday is a no-brainer though, and if you've never seen an Of Montreal set live, be prepared for the bizarre, Houston.

Spill your weekend plans in the comments.
