What was here? Peter Brown edition

Kipling patio homes
While doing your last little bit of shopping at the soon to be defunct Alabama Bookstop, you may have noticed more condos going up alongside the center (I know - surprise!!!). While we all hope that nasty crackshacks were torn down to make room for Lovett Homes' Kipling (patio) homes, something about the location was eerily familiar.

Going through what we feel Houstonians as a whole have - history/architecture amnesia-prone minds - we finally remembered that Peter Brown, one of our candidates for the upcoming mayoral election, owned two homes on this site - yes, Peter Brown the architect and self-named historic preservation/non wasteful type person. One was a brick bungalow and the other a two story brick home that Brown used for his office. And no, neither were in bad condition. In 2008 he sold the homes to Kipling Homes/Lovett Homes/Frank Liu who then began building the patio homes - not the worst we've seen, but nothing that would make us feel they're worth the $699,999-$899,000 price tags. Are we surprised? Of course not (after all, his wife let this Waverly Court house go last year). Also, In Houston they're much more likely to be someone's dream home rather than a modest brick house, and the remaining little 'uns just look awkward next to their three-story 4,000+ square foot neighbors.
