It's a hot weekend for the art scene here in Houston. From contemporary to AV, check the events below:

FRIDAY

SATURDAY

  • 10 a.m. — Stilet"O"s premiers at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. Artist and woodworker Omar Angel Perez objets du désir for show fetishists, sky-high platform shoes from turned wood and accents such as band saw blades, snakeskin, leather, feathers and Swarovski crystals. The opening reception for this exhibit is Sept. 3 but you can beat the crowds by seeing it this weekend. Free, 4848 Main Street
  • 5 p.m. — Twitter St. Arnold Pub Crawl starting at the Mucky Duck. If you aren't on Twitter and you don't follow St. Arnolds, then you ain't cool (unless you pee your pants). Four subsequent crawl stops to be announced only on Twitter. Make it to all five and get a free St. A's coozie. Pay as you go.
  • 8 p.m. — AV Swap, an annual event bringing together the creative minds of artists, musicians, and filmmakers in an experimental collaborative event. Free. Rice Media Center
  • 8 p.m. — AV Geeks: Naughty Girls presented by Aurora Picture Show. Ephemeral films collected by Skip Elsheimer featuring bad little girls. $7 for non-members, free for Aurora members. Houston Skyline Studio, 1111 Hutchins Street.
