... and you don't want to have to date a washed up celebrity to fulfill your dream? Well, there's some good news for you today, dear reader - your chance has arrived! Tonight, beloved local band The Tontons will be doing their part as Houston ambassadors, playing at House of Blues as The Greater Houston Convention & Visitors Bureau pays some schmucks to videotape the whole shebang.
Here's the premise: someone assembles a video, pitching Houston's thriving downtown nightlife, which is shown to visitors, prospective investors, etc. People see said video, give our fair city a shot, and hopefully the self-fulfilling prophecy comes full circle and the downtown nightlife actually thrives. Also, the video might get airplay on MTV2. We've been told they need metric tons of extras in order to make this thing look legit.
Here's what you can do: show up to House of Blues at 6 pm tonight for a free [!!!] show, and get that pretty face of yours into the crowd. Enjoy the show, try not to do anything overly stupid for the camera, and possibly spot yourself on the movin' picture box one of these days. Houstonist can't really find the downside of this one, so we'll be there. If you make it out to the HOB, make sure to tap us on the shoulder and introduce yourself. We'll be pimping our lovely Houstonist t-shirt, so it will be easy to spot us.
