  • 7 p.m. — Gulf Coast Magazine's first reading of the season featuring Adam Day, Adrienne Fisher and Adam Peterson, at Brazos Bookstore, 2421 Bissonnet. Free!
  • 7 p.m. — CHEVERE: Paintings by Luis Angulo opening reception at Xnihilo Gallery. Works inspired by the artist's Venezuelan childhood and political artists such as Diego Rivera. Free, with wine and cheese to nosh on. 2115 Taft Street.

SATURDAY

  • 4 p.m. — Houston Brazilian Festival celebrating the art, history, life and culture of Brazil on Brazilian Independence Day. At Jones Plaza, 600 Louisiana at Texas downtown.

SUNDAY

  • 8 p.m. — Bollywood Blast. Experience the songs and dances, the glitz and glamour of Bollywood! Free fun for the entire family, at Miller Outdoor Theater in Hermann Park.

MONDAY

  • It's Labor Day. Take the day off.
