Rock Talk, Vol. I

twinkletits.jpg Alright, Houston, it is no secret that we are damn proud of this city - imperfections and all, and we will work tirelessly in order to get people to realize how amazing this place is. There is a tremendous amount happening here culturally in the culinary, artistic and musical worlds - which brings us to our newest endeavor. Welcome to Rock Talk.

Rock Talk's goal is to bring you a weekly recap of what is going on in Houston music - who posted new songs, who put up videos, who got kicked out of venues, etc. Each week we'll dive into the murky deep that consists of visiting an enormous list of MySpace-s, blogs, and Twitters to find those precious pearls of musical activity. Just be prepared to pull us out of the water when we get crazy eye. Here's what we found on this week's plunge:

Side Arms made its debut at the Bright Men of Learning EP Release this weekend.

Chris Ryan played his first gig as Muhammid Ali's new drummer on Saturday. [Seriously, how many bands is this guy playing in now?]

No Talk put four new songs [that Chris recorded and mixed] on their MySpace.

The 71s announced that they are recording four new songs.

Molotov Compromise offered this video as proof that they're working on a new album.

Skeleton Dick posted the track listing for their new album.

You can pick up Searching for Signal's new EP It's So Bright... for three bucks.

Runaway Sun announced their album release will be at The Continental Club on October 10th, and they'd like you to wear orange and black.

Fat Tony announced he'll be playing in New York on October 23rd as part of CMJ. Congrats, and make us proud son.

The next album from The Literary Greats is now available. You can pick it up on CD Baby, and Taylor says that the band is looking for an early November date for an official release show. Here's a video of them playing a new song, That Mountain Yonder, at Walter's.

If you missed the listenlisten instore at Cactus Music this weekend, you can live vicariously through these videos.

Peekaboo Theory posted some videos from their shows at the New York Afropunk festival.

Football, Etc. put up a link to a video of them rehearsing a new song.

Dave Wrangler has a new [and really good] B.I.G. remix.

10th Grade Cutie was apparently banned from The White Swan this weekend. From Mighty Max on Hands Up Houston

Did anyone else hear about the show at The Swan last night? I missed it due to some difficulties finding out info about it. I heared they didn't make if through one song because their guitarist was trying to bite the power cables to the pa in half then got in a fight with multiple people there.

To wrap it all up, apparently Sergio of Buxton shot a short film recently. Here's a trailer for highlights highlights.

Rock Talk is now adjourned for a seven day recess.
