Party to Benefit Local Blues Legend

Earl Gilliam at The Big Easy - James Fraher photo.jpg The Big Easy is "the place to be" for all party-goers this Sunday afternoon! Local blues legend, Earl Gilliam - the best Blues organist alive, is home from a two-month stay in the hospital. In December, 2008, Earl suffered an initial, partial-lung collapse which he recently had surgically corrected, hence the long hospitalization. The Big Easy is having a huge party, this Sunday, October 4th from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., as over 15 Blues and Zydeco bands and musicians will be taking the stage to help raise monies for the Gilliam's to offset their medical expenses. Sponsored by The Big Easy, The Houston Blues Society, and the Blues DJ's from 90.1 KPFT, along with a good number of volunteers - this promises to be a fantastic party.

Admission is only a $5 donation per person at the door and all of the proceeds will go to Mr. Earl and Carrie Jean Gilliam. Where else can you find that much talent, in one location, for only $5??? Houstonist plans on donating more at the door - you should too, just saying. This is a "must attend" event - great fun, amazing music and a philanthropic feel good. In addition to the fabulous blues and zydeco tunes, there will be baked goods (for a donation), a raffle and silent auction. The prize "coup d'etat" goes to local favorites, The Art Guys™, who have donated a lunch outing with them - now THAT is fine dining, bring your wallet this won't go cheap (plus there's a wee chance they'll be there)! A list of musicians and the local businesses and artists who have generously donated their time or items follows after the jump.
