For the Weekend of October 1st - 4th, 2009
Houstonist knows there's something going on in that next town o'er yonder this weekend, but rest assured that the music will abound here as well. For those of you not making the annual pilgrimage to the sweaty dust-fields without toilets, here's a look at what you can see here in town.
Tonight we feel that you should drop by the early show at Rudyard's, drop a fiver in the jar [which goes to support Girls Rock Camp] and catch Guitars. You can do all of this before heading to Mango's for Titus Andronicus, or House of Blues for Heartless Bastards, but we think you'd be a fool to skip out on a free Buxton show at the Continental Club. That's right, free.
Tomorrow, some jokers we wish had never taken up music are headlining at The Meridian, reggae legend Eek-A-Mouse is at Dean's, of all places, and Porterdavis begins his two-day CD release party at Anderson Fair. We'd opt for those Victorian-loving Decemberists, or the rooftop concert on Milam with The Manichean.
Saturday The Factory Party is releasing an EP, former Houstonian Tody Castillo drops by with his new album, and the Hell City Kings are throwing a house show in the 'Trose - $5 gets you a cup for beers and a copy of their brand new 7-inch. Moby will bring his dance party to Warehouse Live, and one of our favorites, San Franciso's The Dodos are taking over the Orange Show for the night. We may or may not have acquired a special invite to see Common and The Roots at The Corinthian.
Sunday offers you a chance to see another guitar legend at Warehouse Live, an actual quality punk show at The Meridian, a trip to 1998 at Verizon Wireless, or some good ol' honky tonk at The Continental Club. We'll let you pick your own poison.
