Houstonist Bartender: Stonewall Jackson

Friday, finally - it's here!!!! The rain we're getting precedes a cold front that should send temperatures plummeting (well, maybe) into the 60°'s. Plus, it is festival season in H-Town, which means outdoor activities, arts, culture, music and - the opportunity to feast upon crap-on-a-stick and turkey legs, while drinking whatever grog-in-a-keg is available for sale. Fall weather makes us start dreaming of chili, chicken & dumplin's, gumbo and baked apple and cinnamon goodness, oh, and pumpkin (good and good for you and not just for pies, anymore). So, here's a gullet-warming cocktail named after a well-known military commander (bonus, it's a bourbon drink - we love bourbon, a lot).

Stonewall Jackson

2 oz bourbon (we prefer Maker's Mark or Jim Beam)
5 oz hot apple cider (here's a recipe to make your own)
Cinnamon Stick (for stirring and decoration, optional)

In a mug, combine the bourbon and really hot cider, stir with a cinnamon stick and prepare to consume (caution: this drink will initially have a high temperature, please blow on it and and what not just to make sure you don't scald your esophagus, if you do, that's your own fault, not ours).

Stay warm, get your festival on and do not be a dumbass. Festival areas can be just crawling with cabbies....be safe, stay safe and stay the hell outta jail. We still won't bail you out, we're spending all our green on yummy festival snacks, like, fried butter.
