For the Weekend of October 15th - 18th, 2009
Well well well, look who's back to check on a weekend full of shows! We've got everything you need to know about the weekend in Houston music right here for you, dear reader. Here's the lowdown on what we'll be seeing this weekend.
If there's a standout obvious choice for tonight, it is certainly the free Something Fierce show at The Continental Club. That's right, we said free. There is also the free outdoor gig at Discovery Green, and for those who love the rock [we salute you] we highly recommend attending the gig at Rudyard's to witness some melting faces.
Friday's list is significant as well, and you can start with a free show [and beers] at Cactus Music, and move to another free show at Rice [Female Demand and Cosmic Sound, shaweet] before selecting where you'll spend the rest of the evening. If you're feeling folk-y, we'd suggest hitting Walter's, for dirty hometown rock head to Super Happy Fun Land, and if you're in the mood for some punk then make sure to drop in on The Meridian.
We normally wouldn't list a small venue out in the boonies, but Colin Hay is playing Dosey Doe on Saturday, and that's significant enough for us. If you're already out that direction and don't feel like shelling out for the Allman Brothers, be sure to check out our favorite man at work. For those of you in town: Walter's has the black metal, NiaMoves hosts the poppy songwriter, and 2005 will make an appearance at The Meridian. We suggest hitting up Mango's for a fantastic indie rock set, or if you are so inclined, Warehouse Live for local prog-rockers Scale The Summit, who are playing their first gig since being on tour with Dream Theater.
Finally, kick-start your Sunday with a free Wild Moccasins show at Discovery Green before selecting your final music destination. We'll throw a vote in for blues master Buddy Guy at House of Blues.
The calendar, as always, is below the jump. Let us know where you'll be, Houston.
