Skating For Cancer

Sergie Ventura airs out of the bowl at the Jamail Skatepark during the first Rock The Cradle event held last year.

For the second year in a row, Houston's Jamail Skatepark is hosting Rock The Cradle For Johnny Romano.

This year it's an official event and the final stop on the World Cup Skateboarding Points Tour! For those not familiar with skating, this is huge! It means that even more pros than last year will attend as it will be their last chance this year to score points for their World Cup ranking. This event will feature pro's, amateurs as well as a women's event.

rtcposter.jpg The event will also raise money, accept blood donations and create cancer awareness as it will donate monies raised to the Johnny Kicks Cancer Foundation.

The mission of the Johnny Kicks Cancer Foundation is to cure childhood leukemia through awareness and funding for cutting-edge research, as well as to empower and encourage patients, families and doctors in their fight against the number one childhood cancer.

Johnny Romano was an 11 year old, avid skater and surfer who passed away in September 2008 of acute myeloid leukemia.

This year's event will also include live music from Los Skarnales, DJ CeePlus Bad Knives, McRad and Blackholicus.

Event:
Rock The Cradle For Johnny Romano
Place: The Lee and Joe Jamail Skatepark
Time: 11am to 6pm
Admission: $10 or a blood donation to the on site Gulf Coast Blood Center Bloodmobile
