Get Off the Couch & Chase Plastic

20091023_houston_ultimate_league.jpg Remember way back in the day when we told you about Ultimate and the Houstonians that kickass playing it? Of course, you remember. No?

Well...remember last week when you thought, "DANG! I need to get offa the couch before my fat ass becomes one with the sofa cushion." Yeah, we thought you might.

Here's your chance to get some exercise outside while the Houston climes are bearable. Houston Ultimate Community is hosting their annual winter league, which begins in November.

"Ultimate" is so named because the originators deemed it the best sport on the planet. The basic premise of the game is to score points by catching the disc in the end zone of a playing field. The offense can pass the disc in any direction, similar to movement in soccer. However, the players can not run with the disc and have ten seconds to make the next pass. The most unique feature of ultimate is the players are responsible for officiating the game themselves by making foul calls and determining the appropriate resolution in light of the rules.

If you think it sounds like a good time, visit HoustonUltimate.org for more information and to register. If you still need to be sold on the idea or would like to see the game played, check out one of HUC's clinics or just head out to the UH intramural fields on a weekend afternoon to watch pick-up.
