For the weekend of October 29th - November 1st, 2009
Still haven't figured out what you're doing this weekend? Maybe that costume has been harder to pull together than you thought? Or perchance this year you just haven't gotten invited to any of the cool parties? Never fear, Houstonist is here with a full calendar of music for your weekend.
Start off by spending the night with us on the "Coolest Block in Houston" where you'll find Roky Moon & Bolt playing a free show at Continental Club. Then we'll drift south to Big Top for some tunes by Los Pistoleros de Tejas before we hit up The Mink for Digital Leather & The Energy's punk tunes. Or go see The Pogues. It's your choice.
Friday brings a deluge of pre-Halloween concerts for you to attend even if you've already got your party-hopping schedule on lockdown for Saturday. Shows that Houstonist wouldn't want to miss include: Mute Math at Warehouse Live, a noisy night at SHFL, and some great local rock at Mango's. We have a feeling that we won't be able to resist the charms of seeing a certain nefarious R&B singer at the south end of town, however.
If you still haven't figured out what to do Saturday - go see some music! Also, get that costume assembled, because many of these shows are Halloween themed. Walter's will have two cover bands in Dannzig [Misfits/Samhain/Danzig tribute] and Davement [Pavement tribute] built from local rockers and our new heroes Grandfather Child. Hanson will be stopping by, if you're into that - and maybe if you don't have Halloween plans then you are into that - and Ben Gibbard wannabees Owl City will hit The Meridian. If you're still stuck, you cannot go wrong with Brand New & Thrice at Warehouse Live.
So where will we be found coming down from our candy [read: booze] filled Saturday? Houstonist knows that we could shell out some bones for the big classic rockathon, but we'd rather hit up Miss Leslie & Her Juke Jointers - nothing cures a hangover like some honky tonk. Maybe we'll even manage to get to Hermann Park and catch the show from the hill.
