For the Weekend of December 3rd - 6th, 2009
Coming to you this weekend in H-Town Rock: more festivals! There's three of them this time around, but don't forget about the other music coming through town. Make sure you catch some shows and support that local scene, or you'll make Houstonist cry - you don't want that, do you?
Tonight we might pop into Mango's for Sad Gorilla, of whom we've only heard stories - one might say that they're the Bigfoot of our music radar - before heading over to The Continental Club to catch News on the March. We suppose that 30 Seconds to Mars might be a valid choice, but only if they wind up in a battle royale with Dogstar [remember that?], featuring chains and baseball bats with nails.
Tomorrow offers us just about enough reason to head southeast to [gasp!] Scout Bar: Bone Thugs N' Harmony. Seriously? We're not sure we believe that. Houstonist plans to catch Fanfarlo at least once on Friday, however.
Saturday is when our calendar starts to get really busy. For you fogies, KISS will be in town, hopefully not sans-makeup, and dragging along Buckcherry for the "we need some money, let's tour" ride. The Black Math Experiment is playing a rare reunion show [these always seem to crop up around the holidays], and the festivals start. The annual Houston Noisefest will have White Swan swarming with grungy grindcore groups, but our money is on that nice looking Lost In Space Fest, which will be on the rooftop of Khon's [and capped off by B L A C K I E]. There's a pretty swell looking show at The Mink, too, with Austin's The Pons, ListenListen, The Tontons, and Gretchen Schmaltz. Decisions, decisions.
As for Sunday, pick your poison: Miss Leslie will have everyone honky-tonkin' at Continental Club, and Slackfest 2009 dominates not one but three venues at the corner of Westheimer & Taft. We might crawl back to 7th grade and drop into the 311 show, just for kicks - you'll have to track us down to find out for sure.
