H-Town Rock

cavernous.jpg For the weekend of December 26th - 27th, 2009

We're back from our holiday break with a schedule for your Saturday and Sunday nights. We hope to see you out and about this weekend, drinking away the memories of Grandma's awful Christmas sweater and Uncle Roy's embarrassing racist comments. Or maybe just out having a good time - that'll work for good ol' Houstonist.

We'll be hitting up Mango's tonight for Black Christmas, which at a suggested donation of $5 is guaranteed to be a good time. If the cost wasn't enough incentive for you to show up, Houston's premiere noise-rapper B L A C K I E will be dropping a new tape at the show. Houstonist knows that it won't be everyone's proverbial cup of tea, however, so allow us to offer other suggestions: Cavernous provides us with a reason to actually go to Fitz, Spain Colored Orange headlines a great show at Continental Club, and the Tramps are on a bill with Hayes Carll over at Warehouse Live - this would be our pick of the night if the Mango's show didn't exist.

Tomorrow night we plan on playing it cool and hanging out at The Husk for the latest installment of Lance Higdon's Resonant Internal Sound Series, featuring our dear friend Ryan Supak [for whom we can vouch] and former Golden Cities member Nathan Heskia. If witty female songwriters in the vein of Jenny Owen Youngs are your style, then allow us to recommend our friend Maryanna Sokol, who'll be at Mango's.
