For the weekend of December 31st, 2009 - January 2nd 2010
It's time for us to send out the year with a bang and kick-start the upcoming annum. Fortunately for you, Houstonist knows of plenty of concerts capable of achieving said goals. We hereby formally resolve to have a damn good weekend, and you should too.
Tonight being the grand finale to 2009 means there are plenty of options available, including the energetic Los Skarnales at Fitzgerald's and the seventh annual New Year's Noise show at Super Happy Fun Land. If you desire to hang with the Houstonist then look no farther than our dear old Mango's - sure, it'll be full of sweaty hipsters but the lineup is stellar. Plus, we need to get our hands on a piece of Female Demand vinyl.
Once the new year has arrived, celebrate again the way all Houstonians should: by attending another show. Metal will abound at both Meridian and Fitzgerald's, and you can get your Journey fix by catching Frontiers at House of Blues. We'll opt for Austin's The Sour Notes [now with more Elaine Greer!] and the catchy hooks of Spain Colored Orange at Rudyard's.
There's no need to let the party stop beyond that, either. Wayside Drive's melody-laden tunes can been caught at Rudyard's, and Super Happy Fun Land will have a pretty solid punk lineup. We'll be out doing our release show duty at The Mink, where not one but three bands will be unleashing new releases - oh and Muhammid Ali is on the bill to seal the deal for us.
On Sunday, Houstonist will turn right back around and hit The Mink again for Denton Americana slingers Western Giants. If you've still got some dance steps left, meet us at Continental Club beforehand where we'll be honky-tonkin' with Miss Leslie.
Let us know where you'll be, and for goodness sake be safe this weekend. We done heard them thar cops have issued a "no refusal weekend" fer the breathalyzer.
