H-Town Rock

scalethesummit.jpg For the week of January 11th - 13th, 2009

We're back with the start of another music-filled week here in Houston, and everything from prog-metal to country to brutal noise is on the schedule. Fear not, dear reader, Houstonist has the recommendations necessary to guide you through this week.

We'll start off tonight with one of our favorite acts that we've yet to see: prog-rockers extraordinaire Scale The Summit, who are at the outset of another monster tour. First Dream Theater and now BTBAM, those kids must be doing something right. There's some good local grit going on at Super Happy Fun Land tonight as well, and Lucas Gorham's Sad Gorilla has a new residency at Mango's.

Since they're playing twice, we'll use Tuesday to catch Austin's psych/drone/garage rockers Wild Harem and Philadelphia's surf/garage outfit The Spooks. After several MySpace spins, we're fans. Also, look at that photo down there - Wild Harem clearly knows how to have a good time.

How does Houstonist follow all of that? Well, for starters, White Swan actually listed al the bands on a show! That right there might be enough for us to pop in for a show - also, it's biking distance for our drunken selves. Or maybe we'll head to Dean's downtown for some mellow songwriters. Heck, if we're brave enough, we'll take ourselves [and some decibel-reducing earplugs] over to Super Happy Fun Land for the noise show. Who knows? You'll have to head out to a show to find out for sure.
