H-Town Rock

lymbycsystym.jpg For the weekend of January 14th - 17th, 2010

Well ahoy there! Houston just wouldn't be Houston if there weren't another music-filled weekend featuring everything from talented local groups, major label stunners and hip indie artists filling the bill. Houstonist has already figured out our plans for the weekend, but if you haven't then look no farther than our handy concert calendar.

Tonight features a reunion show for Goodie Mob - aka that group that Cee-lo Green was in before he started Gnarls Barkley, and a free show at the Continental Club featuring Ragged Hearts. Houstonist knows you can't beat free with a stick, but we'll be found at Rudyard's for the Exeters/Passengers/Golden Cities show.

Again, stick or no stick, free just can't be beaten. Friday offers you a chance to see a handful of local acts at Coffee Groundz for [wait for it...] free, along with a host of drink specials as part of the Clear out the Bar party. We missed Giant Battle Monster last week, though, and Cop Warmth always warms our hearts with their brand of noise-punk, thus you'll find us at Mango's.

Saturday is, of course, the night of hard decisions - Thee Armada's final show, with a host of other local rock groups at Warehouse Live, is probably something we really shouldn't miss. With sIngs and our beloved Cedar Boy Bailey at Mango's - two acts in this town you should really make sure to catch - we'll have to pass. Even that won't be enough to tear us away from the show at Rudyard's, though - not only will we finally get to see Springfield Riots in person, but also Lymbyc Systym is bringing their delightful "two men that make sounds like five" instrumental goodness through Houston.

Houstonist plans on closing the weekend out with a trip to the Continental Club to catch Houston Funk Factory, who we missed last week. Sometimes life just gets in the way, we suppose. Don't stop that from letting you see a few shows this weekend, however.
