Houston, whether you're really Irish or want to celebrate and support the Irish in our community, you can be a part of the 51st Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade! Whether you build a float, decorate your vehicle or gather a gaggle of friends to walk along the route you should come out and participate (you may even end up on the TV by way of one of our local news programs). Don't dream it, BE it! This year's parade will be held March 13th and begins at Noon at Minute Maid Park. The parade itself is free to attend and lasts approximately two hours. We'll give you more information about the parade itself in the coming weeks, including its history. For now, here's a schedule of entry costs, you need to send your entry in, and pronto:
NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS: $50.00/ENTRY
“ORIGINAL IRISH 100 CLUB”: $50.00/ENTRY
FLOATS: $125.00
TRUCKS: LARGE TRUCK (18 WHEELER) $175.00

A link to the entry form can be found HERE. The theme for this year's parade is "Celebrating the Irish Family". Houston has one of the largest St. Patrick's Day Parade's in the country. Let's go big and try to hold the largest! Heck, you can consider it a fine warm-up for the Art Car Parade, if you choose to decorate a car (or have an art car that needs to get out and about). Please note that all schools and military honor guards may enter the parade for free.
This should be a grand time - and a fantastic way to kick-off your St. Patrick's Day celebration. If you're not practicing your parade wave, start making plans to attend! If you need additional information regarding your participation in the parade, please e-mail the Parade Coordinator, Mary Kearns. If you realize that these things take some work to pull off without a hitch, and have some time to spare (you'll love volunteering - it's enjoyable, gratifying and you get to meet some fabulous people), please throw your hat in the ring HERE.
