For the weekend of February 25th - 28th, 2010
EPIC! That is the only way to describe the quantity of shows on this weekend's calendar. Houstonist can't promise to chart you an immaculate path for the weekend, but we'll give you some tips as to where to spend your dough.
Tonight metal heavyweights Killswitch Engage will swing through Warehouse Live, and collective Together We Are Instruments will be taking over The Husk. You'll find us either at 29-95's latest Thursday concert at Continental Club for Ellypseas and Another Run, or possibly at Mango's for hipster-approved Givers and part-time NOLA dwellers Caddywhompus.
Friday the calendar starts to swell - Keb Mo' at House of Blues, Heartless Bastards - with Runaway Sun opening - at Warehouse Live, Shake Russell at Anderson Fair, Joe Ely at Mucky Duck, the "gem sweater girl" at Walter's. What really gets us going, however are two shows - the first being a house show hosted by the guys in Muhammid Ali - we hear tales of BBQ, beer, and sweaty punk rock. The other one that we simply cannot pass up is The Appleseed Cast at Rudyard's. They've been playing Low Level Owl I & II straight through on this tour, and that makes all giddy and - hey, did our pants just get tighter?
Saturday is just too much for us - whether you're at Continental Club's Johnny Cash Bash, Festival At The Mink 2, or the Free Press Houston 7 Year Celebranza, you can't go wrong. But that's not all! Felix Da Housecat is at Club Wired, Prairie Cadets are at Dean's downtown, Tegan & Sara are at Warehouse Live, Unearth brings their metal onslaught through Wired Live, and - is that really the Ying Yang Twins playing Scout Bar? Wherever you go, don't miss the two in-stores at Cactus Music, especially the 3 o'clock performance by Something Fierce.
Phew - after all that, there's still more music on Sunday! Together We Are Instruments will be playing combined and solo sets at The Husk, as the latest installment in Lance Higdon's Resonant Interval Sound Series. Atreyu drops into Wired Live, and Houston Funk Factory will be holding down their standard spot at Continental Club. We might head over to The Mink to check out The Transgressions.
