For the week of March 29th - 31st, 2010
Shows! There are always shows in Houston - and we're fortunate for that. If you have a keen eye, you've probably spotted us around town several times, but here are some hints as to where we'll be this week.
Tonight is Boondocks' weekly free concert, and it features two of Houston's great songwriters from the indie scene - Spain Colored Orange's Gilbert Alfaro and Springfield Riot's Pete Tijerina. We might wind up there, but our plan is to trek over to Super Happy Fun Land for a trio of Chilean bands - one of whom recently toured with Radiohead and another that was on the road with REM and The Jesus & Mary Chain. Set expectations to high, Spock.
94.5's Best New Rock Act The 71's are at Warehouse Live on Tuesday, but the odds are pretty good that Houstonist will wind up at Super Happy again to catch the special blend of Houston crazy found in Cop Warmth and Somosuno. New Orleans-based High In One Eye will bring their two-man instrumental spastic rock through as well.
Wednesday doesn't look too full, so we imagine we'll wind up at Mango's to see Robert Ellis & The Boys. It's been a few weeks since we've honky-tonked it in hipster country, so we're due for another spell of old country from some of Houston's talented troubadours.
