For the weekend of April 8th - 11th, 2010
Bam! There's a bunch of awesome music happening in town this weekend - I mean, look at that Sunday! We never see Sundays packed like that. Here's where you'll find Houstonist getting down over the next few days.
Tonight we plan on going to see Ani DiFranco croon, because, well, she's Ani DiFranco - 'nuff said. We've got a little o' that gubbamint money in our pocket to burn, after all. However, if thrifty is your cue for the evening, then check out the show at Super Happy Fun Land. It looks intriguing, and is probably a safer bet than whatever that is at Notsuoh.
Friday night is a pretty big deal, with a few new releases, Yeasayer, and Shooter Jennings all happening at the same time. Yeesh. We'll go see Waylon's progeny before heading over to Mango's, where our soul will delight in four fantastic acts [and the four exquiste girls in Warpaint]. That new Jonx album is getting some good press, and the rest of that bill at Rudyard's is pretty swell, too. It'll be yet another night when we long for the gift of multiplicity.
Which brings us to Saturday - unfortunately we'll be out of town for a wedding [insert sigh/aww/sigh here]. If, however, we were in town, you can bet your sweet whatchamacalit that we'd be at that Black Congress 7" release that features Golden Axe topping off the bill. However, noisy may not be your cup o' tea, and if this is the case, allow us to suggest Holly Golightly & The Brokeoffs at Mango's, or if bluesy psych throwback is your game, check out Avant Garden. Either way, you should spend the bulk of Saturday at Rice University in our stead.
And up comes that packed out Sunday. We'll be back in town to take in Glasgow's Camera Obscura at Warehouse Live, but not before catching Two Star Symphony at Discovery Green on what ought to be a pretty perfect afternoon. To fill the gap between the two shows, we'll pop over to Continental Club for the Goldstar/Sugar Hill Studios book release extravaganza. Pro-tip: that show's free, but all donations will go to the Musician's Benevolent Society of Houston. Donating to things makes you cooler, so do it.
Go see some shows!
