It's that time again! Look at all the cool stuff happening this weekend! Oh, and Saturday is Record Store Day! We like exclamation points! Let's talk about music!
Tonight looks like a good night for us to finally check out local electronic explorers Yppah, as they'll be opening for Bonobo at Warehouse Live. Röcbar's weekly freebie is punk oriented and also happens to be Mohawk Steve's birthday. We might wind up there afterwards.
Houstonist really wishes we didn't have to choose a place to be on Friday night. There are several great things going on - the second installment of the KTRU Live Compilation is being launched at Avant Garden, with a handful of bands and a few of the KTRU DJ's spinning. But the must-see show is at The Mink, with Benjamin Wesley, Warbler PL and Robert Ellis all performing. House Of Blues is sure to be flooded with kids there to see Aqua Teen Hunger Force live [we'll fully admit that a significant chunk of ourself would like to be there], and there's a full on metal onslaught at Walter's - we caught some of the lineup at SXSW, and it'll be good.
Saturday we're in for a real treat - sIngs EP release at Mango's is going to be pretty fantastic, especially since a calendar snafu has dropped Casiotone For The Painfully Alone at the top of the bill. The show was already set to stellar, but now you'd just be a fool to pass on it. Make sure to support your local shops for Record Store Day, as well - a nice set of bands at both Cactus Music & Sig's Lagoon during the day, plus we hear that Vinal Edge will have some special crates available.
Finally, and we know this may sound a bit odd, we'll head to Dan Electro's on Sunday to see former Misfits member Michale Graves. Seriously, what did you think we'd do? Go to House of Blues for Puddle of Mudd? No thanks.
