Schaub, who continues to struggle on the road, was a dismal 17-for-37 with 188 passing yards and no touchdowns with three interceptions. The Texans offense had its chances, but they couldn't capitalize as they could only muster one touchdown in six appearances... [continue]

Astros Should Pursue Bonds on August 10, 2008

On Saturday, the Astros offense took a major blow. Carlos Lee suffered a broken pinkie finger which will require season ending surgery. Today, the Astros pulled off a four game sweep of the Cincinnati Reds which puts them one game under .500 as they return to Texas for a seven game series against the San Francisco Giants (49-66) and the Arizona Diamondbacks (60-58). If the Astros have any thoughts at clinching a Wild Card... [continue]

Not too far from Houston is the town of Lumberton. It's a small and friendly community where everyone knows each other. It's also the hometown of Crystal. Of all the thousands and thousands of beautiful women who entered Maxim's Hometown Hottie Contest, Crystal was one of the elite few who made it to the semi-finals. Houstonist had a chance to talk with this Texas beauty last week on her new found fame. Crystal, can... [continue]

All of the sports world is in envy of Boston fans today. Since October, the New England area has had the Red Sox (MLB), Patriots (NFL), Revolution (MLS) and Celtics (NBA) make their respective league championship game and two (Red Sox and Celtics) have won the title. It's rare and quite an impressive feat. Houstonist takes a look at Houston's sports teams and sizes up their chances at bringing home some hardware. Houston Astros:... [continue]

The Rice Owls won their Super Regional game against Texas A&M (6-5) at a sold-out game on campus last night. That's right, baby, we're headed to Omaha! Although, one hopes that the Rowdy Owls will tighten their game between now and the first game of the College World Series; last night's difficult win over the Aggies yielded six errors for the Houston institution. Seems that Rice coach Wayne Graham is a little conscious of those... [continue]

Dwayne De Rosario has had a story book MLS career. He's a four-time MLS Cup Champion. He's a two-time MLS Cup MVP. He was the MVP of the 2006 MLS All-Star Game. He's the face of the Houston Dynamo franchise. But there's more to De Rosario's life than collecting awards; he's giving back. Houstonist met up with the Dynamo midfielder to chat about his life saving quest. Howdy Dwayne. Can you tell us about... [continue]

Bar-Be-Two on June 3, 2008

Texas Monthly has released their annual list of the Top 50 BBQ Joints In Texas in the June issue that's just hit newsstands. For you Houston barbeque fans, we hope that you like the bitter taste of disppointment with your brisket: Only two Houston restaurants made the exclusive list. In a state known for its barbeque, making a list containing only 50 barbeque restaurants is no easy task. And since barbeque is perhaps best made... [continue]

Houstonist iMix: June on June 3, 2008

We’ve been getting into some good new music lately, and enjoying some old favorites. Like we do every month, we’re sharing those favorites with you on June’s edition of the Houstonist iMix. Nada Surf has come a long way since their 90’s high school ode “Popular.” We start off the iMix with a track from their latest pop masterpiece Lucky. Another track from The Raconteurs sophomore album that we love is the more somber “Old... [continue]

He's fast. He's agile like a cat. And he's the National League Player of Month. Lance Berkman's torrid May garnered the Texan the award for only the second time in his career. Berkman had a May to remember. He hit .471 (49-for-104) with nine home runs, 11 doubles, 22 RBI and 31 runs scored. The Big Puma had a 17-game hit streak during the month and also tied the Astros franchise record by tallying... [continue]

You name it, Brad Lincoln won it. 2006 was a very special year for the University of Houston All-American. He became the first UH and C-USA player to win a national player of the year award. He led the Cougars in wins (12) with a 1.69 ERA and 152 strike outs. He also belted 14 home runs and led UH with 53 RBI. He was the fourth overall pick to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Brad... [continue]

You Can't Go Home Again on May 22, 2008

But that's exactly what the Houston Dynamo will be doing tonight when they face off against the newly-reopened San Jose Earthquakes franchise at Buck Shaw Stadium in neighboring Santa Clara. Soccer fans will remember that our Houston Dynamo club originally came from San Jose, where it had a bright ten-year history including two MLS Cup wins and the honor of being the first team in the MLS to score a goal, in their inaugural 1995... Astros first baseman, Lance Berkman was named National League Player of the Week, presented by Bank of America, for April 20-27. Berkman also hit safely in six of the seven games he played in. While in Cincinnati this past week, Berkman torched the Reds on April 24... [continue]

Houstonist knows a thing or two about Baytown — enough to understand that, if a UFO was going to be spotted somewhere, we wouldn't be surprised if it happened in the skies over the Big B. And no, that's not as random a thought as it might seem: Baytonians Lisa Fojt and Kathy Boyd told KHOU that they saw a strange flying object over the city as they crossed the Fred Hartman Bridge on Saturday... Houstonist Legends: Nolan Ryan on April 27, 2008

The day was April 27, 1983. The location was Olympic Stadium in Montreal. 25 years ago today, Nolan Ryan struck out Expos pinch-hitter Brad Mills for his 3,509th of his career to break Walter Johnson's all-time strike out record. 1983 was an interesting year for the coveted mark. Phillies legend Steve Carlton wasn't too far behind Ryan for the race to the mark. Ryan would reach it first, but Carlton would pass Ryan on... [continue]

With two outs in the ninth inning and facing MLB's all-time saves leader Trevor Hoffman, Lance Berkman was well aware the Astros were just moments away from an 0-3 start, but he didn't let that happen. Hoffman delivered a fastball to Berkman on a 3-1 count and he smashed it to deep center field for a three-run home run to give the Astros a 9-6 win. After a stagnant showing of one run in...
