Quite a few of our favorite classic names are making appearances in our TV listings this week. Neil Diamond, a.k.a. the Jewish Elvis, stops by the Today show this week, but we’ll have to distract ourselves with Def Leppard on Ellen and Carly Simon at GMA till Friday. In case you missed her last week Estelle makes a stop at Jimmy Kimmel Live; catch her before she takes over your iPod, TV set and radio dial.
-ABC, 11:05pm: Jimmy Kimmel Live, Maroon 5
The Queen of Hip Hop Soul, Mary J. Blige takes the stage at the latest installment of Vh1 Storytellers, airing tonight at 7pm on Vh1.
Fresh off his Grammy win for Record of the Year, jazz pianist Herbie Hancock [pictured] will perform on the View this week.
Sultry Brazilian songstress Bebel Gilberto [pictured] sings about love a lot, so it seems fitting that she is scheduled to perform on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson show on Valentine's night.
The Foo Fighters, Beyonce, Rihanna and many others are set to perform at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards airing next Sunday on CBS at 7pm.
It's Superbowl Sunday next week, and you know what that means... a ridiculously over-blown Halftime Show/pyrotechnic extravaganza!!! Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are set to perform this year.
Unfortunately, our pick of the week has already aired. Kimya Dawson and Adam Green of the Moldy Peaches performed our favorite song from the Juno soundtrack, "Anyone Else But You," on The View this morning. We're hoping it'll pop up on The View's website or on Youtube soon.
The Mars Volta will be performing on Letterman this week, mostly likely in support of their upcoming epic, The Bedlam in Goliath. Too bad the intellectual prog-rockers with Texas roots currently have no shows in the Lone Star State scheduled on their winter tour. We kind of think that's cold-blooded.
Most of the late-night talk shows are back with new shows this year, proving that scripted comedians can actually be kinda funny on their own! This week, electronic rockers MGMT [pictured] are scheduled to perform on Letterman. Like what you hear? Be sure to catch the duo when they come to town to play at Walter's on Sunday, January 20.
For once, there's a reason to watch 60 Minutes beyond Andy Rooney's senile rants. Everyone's favorite hometown anti-hero, Roger Clemens, will be featured on Sunday's episode of the ABC news magazine, talking with his personal friend Mike Wallace about the steroid use allegations that surfaced as part of the Mitchell Report last month. Ever since the report came out, Clemens has issued a series of denials, starting with a press release, working up to a YouTube video, and culminating with a softly-lit sit down on prime time tv. Fortunately for those of us with better things to do on a Sunday evening, some of the juicy denial details have already been leaked.
Staying in for New Year’s Eve? Log on to the internets at 11pm to watch Radiohead perform their new album, In Rainbows, on Current TV. The webcast will air three more times on Tuesday for those of you who spend the night out on the town.
Happy Holidays Houston! If you can stand more excitement after all of the festivities this week, we suggest tuning in for a re-airing of Justice's awesome "performance" on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and a brand spanking new Austin City Limits with Bloc Party and Ghostland Observatory.

Animal Collective’s new record, Strawberry Jam, was one of the most talked about indie releases of 2007. The experimental rock group's [pictured] national television debut on the Conan O’Brien show re-airs tonight. Monday -NBC, 11:35pm: Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Animal Collective Tuesday -FOX, 9am: Morning Show with Mike and Juliet, Wyclef Jean -NBC, 12pm: Ellen DeGeneres, Snoop Dogg Wednesday -FOX, 9am: Morning Show with Mike and Juliet, Gloria Gaynor -NBC, 12pm: Ellen DeGeneres, Ryan...
We're psyched about Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings' appearance on Letterman later this week, and we think you should be too. Watch their brilliant video for the single, "100 Days, 100 Nights." Monday -CBS, 10:35pm: The Late Show with David Letterman, Jay-Z -ABC, 11:05pm: Jimmy Kimmel Live, Ben Harper Tuesday -NBC, 7am: Today Show, The Brian Setzer Orchestra -CBS, 10:35pm: The Late Show with David Letterman, the cast of Young Frankenstein Wednesday -CBS, 12:05am:...
You might want to set your TiVo for these. PBS is re-airing three great music docs on Saturday night, including a live performance of Willie Nelson's new classic country album and a collection of archival concert footage of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Monday -ABC, 11:05pm: Jimmy Kimmel Live, Hot Hot Heat Tuesday -NBC, 7am: Today Show, James Taylor -ABC, 9am: Regis and Kelly, Jordin Sparks -NBC, 12pm: Ellen DeGeneres, Soulja Boy Wednesday -NBC, 7am: Today Show,...
The Dynamo Dynasty? Yeah, that sounds pretty good. The Orange are headed for their second consecutive MLS Cup appearance after shutting out the Kansas City Wizards at Robertson Stadium on Saturday night. However, the win did not come without a high cost. Forward Brian Ching, who has been one of the cornerstones of the franchise since its arrival in Houston last year, went down with a calf strain in the 69th minute with the game...
Looks like it's going to be slim pickings for awhile, folks. A reader informed us last week that all late night shows are in repeat mode for the duration of the writer's strike. Bummer. Recommended viewing this week includes any TV appearances by Alicia Keys, and Nicole Atkins' (pictured) wonderful Letterman performance in case you missed it the first time around. Monday -CBS, 10:35pm: The Late Show with David Letterman, Ryan Adams Tuesday -ABC, 7am:...
Brooks & Dunn, Sugarland, and a host of others perform at the CMA Awards on Wednesday, but we're most excited about Keyshia Cole's Jay Leno appearance and Arcade Fire on Austin City Limits this week. Monday -NBC, 10:35pm: Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Garth Brooks -ABC: 11;05pm, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Matt Nathanson -NBC: 11:35pm, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Band of Horses Tuesday -NBC: 2:05am, Last Call with Carson Daly (repeat), Joss Stone -NBC: 12pm,...
Hey Houston, do you want your MusicTV? No, we’re not talking about the reality TV channel of the same name, although we admit we have watched that ridiculous Lauren-Heidi melodrama on occasion. (Actually, we don't miss an episode, but we're not proud of ourselves!) Each week, we’ll give you the 411 on televised music performances that are so good, they’ll almost make it worth your while to sit through Jay Leno’s monologues! Monday -ABC, 11:05pm:...
It's baaaaack. We can't believe it's been nearly six months since the last installment of the MFA's kick arse series, "Movies Houstonians Love." How the heck did we cope for this long with out it? Must be those doses of Mixed Media that held us over. Tonight marks the return of a new slew of presentations of some of Houston's own professing their love for their favorite flix. This series includes flick pix from the...
Houstonist landed her after departing from a small media market town where the most colorful television news personality was the local weatherman with the bad toupee - think Brick from Anchorman. Naturally we were blown away by the loud delivery, blue sunglasses and long earlobes that were Marvin Zindler. His ear splitting delivery of his tag line - "MAR-vin ZINDLER, EYE-witness NEWS!" - emblazoned the phrase in the memories of Houstonians despite hearing it only...
When Houstonist was little, this video freaked us out. Not sure if it was the punked-out middle school girl, the suit-clad men with chainsaws, or the multiple instruments being destroyed. It's weirdness is what made the Art of Noise's "Close (To the Edit)" extraordinary back in 1984. Many people (including us) didn't know that the band Art of Noise was created by record producer Trevor Horn and music journalist Paul Morley. Horn is best...
85-year-old Houston icon Marvin Zindler announced yesterday on KTRK that he is suffering from pancreatic cancer. Marvin had endeared himself to us long before we read about the fur-lined handcuffs he carried around for arresting ladies when he was a police officer, and this news was upsetting for lots of people - including us. Yesterday, he spoke to ABC 13 viewers with his doctor about his previous health battles and the one he's about to face. As you might imagine, his speech began with, "Well, folks..."
Good morning, Houston. Have you heard the one about the bees that took over a neighborhood? Three years ago, a family (tribe?) of bees moved into a vacant home in Ruth Gray's neighborhood. Over time, they grew in number and ferocity, and when calls to the city were fruitless, Gray contacted a pest control company which said the situation was "instant, instant death." After destroying the hive, the bees attacked and three children were...
Need to know just a little bit about something? Ask a dilettante. My husband and I went out to dinner last night. The restaurant was valet only, and it cost $6. We didn’t really mind until we watched the attendant park the car just a few feet from where we were standing. Then, after dinner, we had to give a different valet guy a few dollars for a tip when he retrieved our car. Seems...
City Council candidate Roy Morales probably has more important things to do than deal with a signmaker who has accused him of not paying $1,000 he owed for signs made during the 2005 election. The printer, Michael Franks, says that Morales also owes him $4,000 from this year's election. Morales didn't deny that he owed Franks the money. The Morales campaign told ABC's Miya Shay that they were working out a payment plan with the...
One of this week's most popular blogging topics was Senator Dan Patrick's trip to Hooter's. Miya Shay broke the story on her Houston Political Blog. It was re-blogged by Burnt Orange Report and several other Texas political blogs. Lone Star Times responded to the slight uproar that had been created in good humor, referring to the incident as "Fried Pickle-Gate," because Senator Patrick was at Hooter's with his son and his girlfriend, who likes the...
