Interview: Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher of the Found Footage Festival

This Saturday at Alamo Drafthouse, Houston is in for a treat. A strange, voyeuristic, 80's tinged video treat. Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher are the founders of the Found Footage Festival. Their credits include The Onion, Colbert Report and the Late Show with David Letterman. The Festival itself is a hilarious, sometimes awful look at the underbelly of corporate videos, instructional films and home movies collected at garage sales, thrift shops and other odd nooks around North America. Houstonist found Joe and Nick recently to find out more about the Found Footage Festival.

Daily-ist Tuesday: Anime at the Alamo

If you've never been to the Alamo Drafthouse (1000 W Oaks Mall, 77082) let Houstonist introduce you to the concept. It's a movie theater... and bar. With food. You sit at a table in front of a traditional theater screen and you have a server at your call throughout the duration of the film.

Houstonist recognizes that not all stay-at-home moms (or dads) lose complete and total interest in pop culture. And, fortunately, so do the Alamo Drafthouse and the Angelika Film Center.

More movie/dinner theaters coming to the suburbs: This time it's Movie Tavern, a Dallas-area company that already operates theaters in Fort Worth, Denton, Arlington and Bedford. Movie Tavern is opening two locations here: one in the former AMC theater at The Commons at I-45 and Richey Road, and another in the old General Cinemas 6 at Deerbrook Commons across from Deerbrook Mall. (The Richey location was originally slated to become an Alamo Drafthouse, but that deal fell through.)

Houston is slowly getting used to the idea that having dinner in a movie theater is OK: First Austin's Alamo Drafthouse started hitting the suburbs, with locations at West Oaks and in Katy, and now Dallas's Studio Movie Grill is jumping in with a location in Copperfield.

Good news: The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is opening their second theater in the Houston area next Friday. Bad news: It’s in Katy, not Houston.
