The Big Sleep has a great band name and a great new album to boot.

Houstonist still likes its classics, though. From the 90's, we have southern-flavored rock from Southern Culture On the Skids and a favorite from Ben Folds Five's album Whatever and Ever, Amen. Our sole 80's entry comes from L.A. new wave band The Sparks. Finally, one of our contributors has spent a little too much time in his 1975 Camaro: he suggested Led Zeppelin and Foreigner.

The Dimes (pictured above) walked away as big winners, with three awards – Best New Act, Best Indie Rock, and Song of the Year, for “Delilah,” which they performed on stage midway through the night. Other performers included Million Year Dance...

Last week, we spotlighted George Clinton, the iFest headliner from this past weekend. So, why not do it again with this weekend’s headliner – Lucinda Williams. Born in Lake Charles, Lucinda is no stranger to Houston, spending her early years playing at clubs and honky-tonks around the area. Her first album came out 28 years ago, but it wasn’t until the late 80’s when she started to receive critical acclaim and had others singing...

The showcase is scattered at different venues downtown. All shows begin at 4 p.m. and end at 10 p.m. A complete listing is here. It’s all...
