Good morning, Houston. We remember our days as student drivers — not bad overall, though we did have a pregnant in-car instructor who had a nasty habit of slamming on the brakes every time we passed a doughnut shop. Still, we didn't have it anywhere near as bad as the kid who passed his driver's test Monday, then crashed his car into the side of a Houston DPS office. The driver was parking his...

We noticed a news story yesterday afternoon about a 5-year-old boy who was reportedly in a woman's car when it was stolen from a north Houston gas station — but it turns out that the woman's report was totally fabricated, and now she may face misdemeanor charges. The Amber Alert for missing 3 year old Danielle Jiminez, allegedly kidnapped by her father after he stabbed her mother to death on Tuesday, has been cancelled. The girl has not yet been found, but police are actively seeking both the little girl and her father, Leando Jiminez. The body of the girl's mother was found in a Channelview parking lot on Monday, and the case is being handled by Harris County detectives rather than HPD.

Her mother, Erica Ysasaga, thought the baby was in good hands when she trusted a woman she'd met at the hospital during the birth, who wore scrubs and identified herself as a nurse. After the birth, the woman visited Ysasaga at home and helped her with small tasks, offering to donate a swing and some clothes to the baby and to put her in a baby pageant with cash prizes. Mother and nurse set off to show the baby off to some neighbors, and Ysasaga was briefly distracted by her two year old son. When she turned around, the woman was gone, and so was Priscilla.

It all started about 2 p.m. Thursday. Police in DeSoto issued an Amber Alert for 4-year-old Kiara Renee Allen and an endangered person report for her mother, Andrea Nichole...
